of Meeting
The regular meeting of
the Space Center Rotary was held April 11th at the Bay Oaks
Country Club. Jack Bacon led members singing,
Dennis Dillon gave the prayer, Marilyn
Musial led the Four Way Test, and John Branch
led the Pledge of Allegiance. Ralph
Kramer introduced guests.
Geoff Atwater
and Bob Taggart
recapped plans for Springoree on April 21st. Event
tickets and raffle tickets were on sale. See more below.
John Branch introduced Dr.
Jack Bacon
, Club member and member of the Engineers
Without Borders - Johnson Space Center Chapter. The
Engineers Without Borders Johnson Space Center (EWB-JSC)
chapter is an association of JSC employees, contractors and
other professionals in the Houston/Clear Lake area who
volunteer their time to participate in sustainable projects in
the developing world by addressing people's basic human needs
and provide necessities by partnering with the local
communities.
Dr. Bacon made a very
informative presentation on projects EWB had done and was
planning in Rwanda, Africa. Read more about this
exciting country. The marvels of technology and man's
desire to share their talents and skills to help others paved
the way to make such projects a reality. Dr. Bacon covered a
water treatment system, solar ovens, and pinpoint
irrigation system, all which improves health and economical
well being. It was interesting to hear about the
organic dried fruits that were being raised and dried
processed using solar ovens rather than by burning with
its carbon emissions; and the novel
way the water was treated and purified using solar to
supply ultraviolet lighting. More of the works and plans
of the Engineers Without Borders can be viewed on its web
site .
The meeting was adjourned by
President Coney.
