Celebrating 50 Years of Service Above Self
Random Acts of Kindness was a service
project originated by President Scott Rainey as a
special program celebrating the fifth year of the The
Rotary Club of Space Center. Fifty thousand dollars were
set aside in the Club's budget in Rotary Year 2014-15 for

Second Act of Kindness: Bay Area Youth Singers recommended by Delia Stephens.
Carol Barwick, Executive Director, Bay Area Youth Singers was given $1,000 at the August 11, 2014 Club meeting.
Third Act of Kindness: It Takes a Village recommended by Micki Czarnik.

Fifth Act of Kindness: Charles Henry Nicholas, a Marine Vietnam Veteran, recommended by Dave Sincox.
Charles' wife,
Jacqueline, was given $1,000 from the Club and an
additional $1,000 from a Club member by President Rainey
(Rafael Cavillo center) September 22, 2014 at 2 pm at the
home of Mr. Nicholas. Among the nine Rotarians present
was District 5890 Governor Lisa Faith
Massey.
Sixth Act of
Kindness: Donation to the Clear Creek Independent School
District Vocation Program in honor of District 5890 Governor Lisa Faith
Masey. President Rainey presented District Governor Massey a
check for $1,000 on September 22, 2014 at
the regular Club meeting.
Seventh Act of Kindness: Donation to
the Rotary Foundation in honor of District 5890
Governor Lisa Faith Masey. President Rainey presented District
Governor Massey a $1,000 Paul Harris Fellowship on September
22, 2014 at the regular Club meeting.
Eighth Act
of Kindness: Tee Time for Autism recommeded
by John
Branch. Brian Ellis was presented a check for $1,000 September 29, 2014.
Ninth Act of Kindness: Fourth and fifth grades of Clear Lake Elementary, recommended by John Wren. President Rainey and five Club members (Principal Jepsey Kimble third from the right) presented 90 computer key boards with mouses, and head phones to the 4th and 5th grades Wednesday October 1, 2014 at Clear Lake Elementary at 1:30 pm. "This golden anniversary partnership seems a perfect fit. Like Space Center Rotary, Clear Lake City Elementary is also marking its 50th anniversary this year. Euker agrees. “I think it's wonderful that we are celebrating the history of two great entities by a donation that helps our students be 21st century learners" .....ending sentence in an article in the (CCISD) District News and Updates. Tenth Act of Kindness: Project Joy and Hope recommended by Mark Hollis. President Rainey presented Dr. Jan Wheeler, Founder and Executive Director, and also serves as the Chief Executive Officer a check for $1,000 at the October 6, 2014 Club meeting.
Eleventh Act of Kindness: To help defray the funeral expenses of a family who suddenly lost a young son. The mother with the father and other child accepted a check for $1,000 at 3:30 pm on October 6, 2014 at McWhirter Elementary where the deceased child attended. Principal Dr. Marquez was the interpreter. The mother was deeply moved and expressed her appreciation for the gift to President Rainey and the seven rotarians who were present. The need was brought to attention of Club member Kaci Hanson. Principal Dr. Marquez was instrumental in bringing the need and the Club together.
Twelfth Act of Kindness: Two families affected by a fire in apartments close to McWhirter Elementary. One family had 3 children at McWhirter and lost everything in the fire and the other a mother with daughter at McWhirter and a daughter at Clear Creek High School who had lots of smoke damage. Each family received $500 in cash from President Rainey at 3:30 pm on October 6, 2014 at McWhirter Elementary. The need was brought to attention of Club member Kaci Hanson. Gary Renola was the sponsor for the project.
Principal Dr. Marquez was instrumental in bringing the need and the Club together. Both families were grateful for the gift. The mother with the three children was in a wheel chair and broke down in tears when she was given the money and thanked all the Rotarians present. The
occasion was very emotional for all the eight Rotarians present and all teared up to see the Club help in a small way dire needs in the community. John Branch gave the family tickets to the Shrimporee. On Monday October 27, 2014 President Rainey, Jim Saxe with his truck, and other Rotarians carried a bed donated by Micki Czarnik to the family after they relocated to another apartment.
Thirteenth Act of Kindness: The Bundie family whose house was destroyed by fire. The father, mother, and two boys were invited as guests to the Shrimporee, October 25, 2015, and then surprisingly brought to the live auction stage by Greg Smith and presented a check for $1,000 by President Rainey. Hundreds of guests, and several district officials and local public officials shared in the compassion of the moment, many with tears, with the father and mother. Fourteenth Act of Kindness: The Independence Village recommended by Gary Johnson. President Rainey presented Judy Slocumb (right in photo), Executive Director, of Independence Village a check for $1,000 at the November 3, 2014 Club meeting. President Rainey read a thank you letter from Judy at the December 8, 2014 Club meeting.
Fifteenth Act of Kindness: Melissa Rojas recommended by Teri
Crawford. President Rainey surprised Melissa with a check for $1,000 at the November 17, 2014 Club meeting. The Club members were moved by the write up on Melissa read by President Rainey. At the end of the reading President Rainey presented a teary eyed Melissa with the check. She thought she was there as part of the food drive for San Jacinto College Food Pantry supported by the Club. Read news release by San Jacinto College. Sixteenth Act of Kindness: The Lone Survivor Foundation recommended by Michael Gifford. President Rainey presented Jen Brown, Volunteer Coordinator Lone Survivor Foundation, a check for $1,000 at the November 17, 2014 Club meeting. Read more on the Lone Survivor Foundation.
Seventeenth Act of Kindness: The Salinas Family recommended by Phil Sandlin. President Rainey presented the Salinas family with a check for $1,000 at their home at 1:45 December 1, 2014. Rotarians Phil Sandlin and Jerrold Dewease were also present. See photo of President Rainey giving check to family. Eighteenth Random Act of Kindness: The Interfaith Caring Ministries recommended by Olive Riker. President Rainey presented Executive Director Suzy Domingo a check for $1,000 at the December 8, 2014 Club meeting to help purchase a much needed truck. Read more about the need.
Nintheenth Random Act of Kindness: The Women of Rotary recommended by Kay McKinnie (see exerpts
from emails regarding the project). President Rainey presented Kay McKinnie a check for $1,000 at the December 8, 2014 Club meeting. The donation was used for a variety of needs such as food for needy family at holidays, gift certificates for homeless family, and single parent with needs. Twentieth Random Act of Kindness: The Christian Outreach Alliance recommended by Don Metzler. President Rainey presented Associate Pastor of the Clear Lake Presbyterian Church Katrina Pennington a check for $1,000 at the December 8, 2014 Club meeting.
Twenty First Random Act of Kindness: The United Methodist Action Reach-out Mission by Youth (UM ARMY) recommeded by Dick Meyer. President Rainey presented David Sabom, Executive Director for U. M. Second Random Act of Kindness: Tim Hagan recommeded by Dick Meyer. Dick Meyer presented Tim a check for $1,000 5:30 pm on
the December 17, 2014 at the home of his host family, Penny Skov, 117 Greenridge Circle, League City, Texas. Tim was an hourly construction worker with no benefits who experienced an automotive accident. Jerrold Dewease joined Dick visiting with Tim and Penny. David Stoval of the U. M. Army - Texas Conference was also present.

Twenty Fourth Random Act of Kindness: Eve Warnack recommeded by Alan Wylie.
President Rainey presented Eve Warnack $1,000 December 23, 2014 at 12 noon at Fuddruckers Restaurant on NASA Parway in the City of Nassau Bay. President Rainey was joined by Rotarians Jerry Smith, Gary Johnson, and Jerrold Dewease. Attending also were Gary's wife and son and Eve's daughters Adrianne and Kayla. The event was staged as having lunch with the Johnson's. See group picture except for Gary's daughter. Eve is to the left of President Rainey.

President Rainey presented Richard and Ginger $1,000 December 24, 2014 at 10 am at Regency Village located 409 Greene St. Webster, Texas. Rotarians Delia Stephens and Jerrold Dewease were also present in addition to several members of the Smith's church.

urgent need for a family of three, whose children attend
Whitcomb Elementary. The family has moved from apartment
to apartment all year and now they do not have a place to live
and have no money. The 2 girls and their mother need to
purchase three one-way bus tickets out of town to the safety
