Jack Bacon kicked off the meeting leading
“The Yellow Rose of Texas”. Carlos Villagomez gave the
prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. Flag was led by
Sheryl Berg, and Nanci Rutledge led the Four Way Test.
Dave Hamlin introduced visitors and guests, including Houston
Councilmember Mike Sullivan and staff member Lauren
Doak.
Jerry Smith recognized the volunteers who helped
deliver 300 roses to four area nursing homes this
morning. Geoff Atwater announced that the Springoree
will be held April 21st. The theme is Hawaiian
Cowboys. A planning meeting will be held at 5:30 Tuesday
at the JSC Credit Union. Alan Wyle recapped his
experiences at the North American Youth Exchange Conference,
which was attended by Rotarians from all over the world.
District 5890 was recognized as the #1 Youth Exchange
District. Alan recognized Youth Exchange Committee
members from our club.
President David Coney announced
that Donna Tromblee passed away last Tuesday. Past
District 589 Governor Floyd Boze is still in intensive care,
but is improving. Micki Czarnik announced that Chuck
Jacobson has been moved to the Regal Estates Assisted Living
Center. Visitors would be welcome. President Coney
announced that a Board meeting will be held at 7 am on
Tuesday. There is no Rotary meeting next Monday due to
the holiday.
John Branch introduced Eric Potts, Deputy
Director of Planning, Design and Construction for the Houston
Airport System. Mr. Potts reviewed the plans for the
Airport Systems Ellington Airport Horsepen Bayou Drainage
Improvement Project. The estimated cost to the Airport
System is $7 million. A brief question and answer
session followed, and President Coney adjourned the
meeting.
Valentines For Our Senior
Citizens
Last
Monday, February 14th, the
Club sent out about 16 Rotarians, one
spouse and one Rotary friend, to ensure that seniors
in four nursing homes would have a GREAT VALENTINES
day. The group assembled at the United
Way on Bay Area Blvd at 9:00 am and then divided up 300
Roses with a Rotary tag attached to each rose (Wishing you a
Happy Valentine’s Day from your friends at Space Center
Rotary). The Nursing homes visited were The Rosemont on
Bay Area Blvd, Bay Wind off Egert Bay Blvd in League City, The
United Way Sr. Center on Bay Area Blvd, and Regency
Center in Webster Tx. A special thank you to Micki
Czarnik who donated the stickers; Pam Culpepper Cronk, who so
graciously took pictures of the Rotarians and
residents; and Steve Waldner who helped with the
arrangements.

26 at the Nassau Bay Baptist Church
from 7:30 to 10 am. Tickets are $7 each or 5 for

Achievement 25th Anniversary Event

The Rotary National Award for Space
Achievement (RNASA) Foundation was founded by the Space Center
Rotary Club of Houston, Texas in 1985 to organize and
coordinate an annual event to recognize outstanding
achievements in space and create greater public awareness of
the benefits of space exploration. Each year since 1987,
the Foundation has presented the National Space Trophy to an
outstanding American who has made major contributions to our
nation's space program at a gala event held in Houston, Texas.
The RNASA Board of Advisors has selected the Commander of
U.S. Strategic Command, and former Space Shuttle astronaut,General Kevin P. Chilton (USAF)
, to receive the 2011 National
Space Trophy.
The 25th anniversary event will be held Friday, May 6, 2011
at the Houston Hyatt Regency. Please see ticket and table information

South Shore Habour Resort and Convention Center

The Club will meet at the South Shore Harbour Resort and Convention
Center for the May 16th club meeting
in conjunction with the Excellence in Teacher Awards
program. This program is a joint effort by the
Rotary Clubs of Space Center, League City, and Seabrook; and
the Clear Creek Independent School District
School (CCISD). It will be the third joint program
and the Club's 21st. Dr. David Taylor was the originated
of the program with the first awards in
1991.
