November 8, 2010 Club Meeting Review

A Salute To Our Military Service
Veterans

Dr. Jack Bacon led the membership in singing “My Country 'Tis of Thee” and recognized military veterans for their service.  Carlos Villagomez led the prayer, John Lee led the Pledge of Allegiance to the U. S. Flag, and J B Fox led the Four Way Pledge.  Roger Donnelly announced that the next fellowship will be held a week from Wednesday at 888 Bistro.  The event will also honor the memory of Gene Tromblee.  Please RSVP to Roger.  Dick Hergert asked anyone interested in playing golf on a regular basis to complete the golf questionnaire left on each table.  The questionnaire will also be sent to the membership.

Rotaract President Stavan Vora  reminded members of the benefit for the Ambassadorial Scholar’s projects in Peru and Argentina scheduled for November 12th.  Tickets are $40.  RSVP to
rotaract5890@gmail.com.  Environmental champion Courtney Lindberg (visit environmental information web site) announced that a hazardous waste disposal will be held November 13th at Gulf Greyhound Park from 9:00 – 1:00.  President David Coney introduced Marine veteran Vince Liposky who shared stories of his early years in military service.  Nancy Molini received her blue badge.

John Branch introduced State Senator Mike Jackson (center).  Senator Jackson serves on the Texas Windstorm Insurance Legislative Oversight Board.  He discussed the history and purpose of the Texas Windstorm Insurance program.  TWIA covers 14 coastal counties, and recent storms have depleted the money in the system.  Major events result in $32-33 billion in potential claims.  The current fund balance is less than $100 million.  A brief question and answer session followed.  President Coney expressed thanks for Senator Jackson’s time and presented him with a gift in appreciation for his presentation.  All the military veterans were invited to participate in a photograph after the meeting.  The meeting was adjourned.
