November 15, 2010 Club Meeting
Review
Our leader said at the Club meeting that he
did a lot of thinking when he was all alone hunting.
See what he was
thinking.
Debbie McBride kicked off the meeting leading
members and guests in a rousing rendition of “Oh What a
Beautiful Morning”. After the song, Marsene Boldt led
the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. Flag, Bill Dusenbury led
the Four Way Test, and President David Coney provided the
prayer. Visitors were welcomed by Dr. David Taylor.
Roger Donnelly reminded members that the next Rotary
fellowship is at 888 Bistro this Wednesday at 6:30. RSVP
to Roger. The annual Christmas party will be held at
6:00 p.m. on December 15th at Bay Oaks Country Club.
President Coney announced that the next Rotary Golf Outing
will be 8:00 am November 18th at Evergreen Golf Course in
Baytown. RSVP to Dick Hergert. Scott Rainey
displayed the recognition gift presented to Space Center
Rotary from the Clear Creek Education Foundation at their
recent gala in thanks for the Club’s major funding provided
for a student Career Exploration Technology
Lab.
President Coney noted that the Rotary year is half
over, and the club has spent about one third of budgeted funds
to date. He recommended that members enjoy the current
calm, because things will get busy again in the new
year. There is a Board meeting tomorrow at 7 am, and an
informational meeting tomorrow night for families interested
in the International Youth Exchange program. President
Coney noted that a vote will be held next month for next
year’s officers and vacant director positions. Anyone
interested in running for Director or Sergeant at Arms should
contact David.
John Branch introduced Dan Parsons, President of the Houston Better Business
Bureau (BBB) and Chair of the Houston Consumer Protection
Group. Mr. Parsons addressed business ethics and
discussed the recent ABC 20/20 broadcast concerning actions by
the national BBB. The Houston BBB has approximately
8,000 members and averages 35,000 complaints a year. He
noted that of legitimate businesses, cell phone companies are
the subject of the most complaints. In fraud cases,
identity theft is the issue most often
reported.
Marsene Boldt received her blue badge and
President Coney adjourned the meeting.
