The history for the Rotary Club of Space Center (Houston), Texas, and U.S.A. has been compiled from previously written histories and chronologies which can be found in the Welcome section of the Home Page.   For the most part, the wording of these previously written histories have been used verbatim except for the insertion of additional information found elsewhere, obvious errors, and annotations by Historian 2009.

The history file contained very few documents.  There was 20 Board meeting
minutes, seven pieces of correspondence, and no avenues of service committee assignments.  There were not any out a possible 49 newsletters, Blastoffs, assuming  that one was issued every Club meeting day.  The Club Programs and Special Events   listing did not contain any programs.  It is assumed that the Blastoffs were legal size written on front and back in various colors such as pink, orange, and blue since the year before and the year after were.

The Club continued to meet at the Nassau Bay Resort Hotel at noon each Monday.  However it is noted in the March 10 minutes that the Club began meeting at the Holiday Inn Motel.

The
July 1, 1976 Semi Annual Report of Club Membership noted a membership of 109 with 1 Honorary member.  The  Club's Roster   is based on the July 1, 1976 Semiannual Report of Club Membership.  Six previous presidents were on the membership roster.

The financial information consist of an
undated 1975-76 budget  and the Shrimporee Financial Statement   (the term Shrimporee was used for the first time in Rotary year 1975-76,  however both Shrimp Boil and Shrimporee  were used interchangeably in documents found for the year).  A letter dated August 19, 1976  lists the principle beneficiary and apparently other service projects for the Rotary year.  Information contained in the Board meeting minutes and information from the budget was used to arrive at the service projects.  With the assumptions made, the amount of donations to service projects   was $6,681.  The amount of monies made from fund raisers since the first recorded fundraiser in 1968 was $30,201.

There were three documents in the 1976 Shrimporee folder pertaining to 1975.  These are in the archives to reflect some of the activities for that year's fund raiser:
Meal ticket,    Commercial Operating Plan, and Clean-up Plan .  Another document was found in the 1979 records which provided the  publicity program  for the 1975 Shrimporee.

The Space Center Club made its fourth Paul Harris Fellow   award in April, 1976.  Gene Lindquist, long time member of the club was honored with a Paul Harris medal and a leather bound certificate.  Gene served the club as a director, treasurer, and president, and for the past seven years has been the editor of the The Blastoff.

The Board approved on
July 9, 1975   that the small replica of the Space Center Rotary Club banner that went around the  moon be the official banner of the Club .

For the past several years there has been mention in  various document about the Earth I Care program,  but this year the Board was requested to "bail" out the program but voted not to support it.  The Club awarded its annual $250 educational scholarships to Melissa Wiginton, Emily Gilmore, Mike Bowling, and Bradford Ward.  The Club also continued to support the Clear Creek Basin Water Quality surveys.  John Hart, creator of the comic strips, "B.C" and "Wizard of Iz" was honored by the Club for his contributions to the Earth Awareness Fund's Summer Fellowship Program.   Also noted in the Board meeting minutes was a visit by the English and approval of buying the Seaman's Center a new van paid for over a three year period.  This was the eighth year for the Drug Awareness Program.  The Board meeting minutes also approved $3,000 for the Drug Awareness Program but no mention of how this was to be paid out.  A thank you letter dated September 23, 1975 was received from the Bay Areas Committee on Drug Abuse.

The 67th Rotary International Convention was held June 13-17,1976  in New Orleans LA, USA.  There were 13,035 in attendance.  Lionel Garcia  attended from Rotary of Space Center.

The District 589 Conference was held in Galveston, Texas on June 15-17, 1976.

Rotary year 1975-76 was placed in the archives in July 2009.
